Music and Arts
Music and the Arts are integral to the spiritual and cultural life of Orinda Community Church. The dramatic sanctuary with its excellent acoustical and visual properties houses a good-sized 1959 Swain & Kates pipe organ and a Steinway Concert Grand piano. The congregation appreciates the visual and lively arts, and loves to sing.
Dancers Circle
Dancers Circle is a liturgical dance ensemble of about twelve dancers. Members come from a number of faith communities and perform throughout the Lamorinda area, including several Sunday services each year at Orinda Community Church. Genia Simpson is the group’s coordinator and choreographer. Rehearsals are held 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesdays at Orinda Community Church.
Chancel Choir
Dr. David Milnes, OCC's Director of Music, directs the Chancel Choir, which enriches the worship of the church each Sunday except during the summer months. The choir sings a wide range of music and has excellent sectional leader-soloists, including Christina Schiffner and Judy McCall. Rehearsals are held at 8:40 Sunday mornings in the Music Room.
Other Performers
Instrumentalists, Gospel quartets, and early music ensembles are also part of OCC's musical repertoire.
Orinda Performances
Orinda Performances at the Community Church brings occasional concerts of unusual quality and interest to the congregation and community. The church's lovely and acoustically excellent sanctuary is also utilized for public performances by wide range of regional choral and instrumental groups.
