The forty days before Easter are an important season in our Christian tradition, and this year Lent starts earlier than usual with Ash Wednesday on February 17th.  (Be sure to see our website or the enclosed information about our Lenten series, and plan to join us at our Ash Wednesday Service, 7 pm in the Jewel Clark Chapel).  Lent (from the Anglo-Saxton word lencten, for spring) is a time of preparation for the church.  It reflects the forty days that Jesus prepared himself in the wilderness before he began his ministry.
