The 350 members of the Orinda Community Church cherish a spiritual heritage of faith, freedom, and fellowship rooted in the Protestant Reformation and carried forward in the contemporary United Church of Christ. The congregation is a self-governing, self-supporting, and independent faith community, but has strong bonds of Christian covenant and mission throughout the various settings of the United Church of Christ: local, regional, national, and international. The Orinda Community Church also participates in Bay Area and statewide ecumenical and interfaith activities.
The Orinda Community Church currently has two ordained ministers serving as pastors, but the membership at large shares a powerful spirit of mutual ministry and is in effect “a congregation of ministers.” While the congregation votes on all major decisions, governance between church meetings is vested in the elected Council and Commissions. Our Moderator is Don Hitzl ; our Vice Moderator is Nancy Peterson . The major Commissions (and their designated areas of mission focus) are Lifelong Learning & Spirituality, Building and Grounds, Care and Fellowship, Children and Youth, Mission and Outreach, Worship and Music. Other specialized committees, task forces and working groups are formed as needed.
